The giant anteater is the largest of four species of anteater, is native to Central and South America, and is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN. They grow to over seven feet in length, including nose and tail, and weigh up to 110 pounds. Females carry their babies on their backs and have mammary glands near the armpits which allows the babies to suckle while on the mother’s back. In the Pantanal, anteaters are mostly nocturnal.
